The other night I did something I do a lot. I met up with a guy I’ve only met briefly in the past to go out in his car and...wait that could be misleading. Let me start over. The other night I shot some photos of a bonkers ‘01 S4, and it turns out I first met this car about 4 years ago.
S4 Avant a fellow opponaut just picked up, more after the jump
Spring has arrived! What better way to celebrate than with a blown 6-speed drop-top V10 on an empty twisty country road.
Who loaned Rolf the keys to the werkstestwagen again?!
My former bosses at CCC gave me lots of really cool opportunities, but one instance in particular sticks out. The time Zac took me out (because he was sick of my iPotato pictures) and taught me how to use a DSLR.
Rental cars are the best. To quote Alex Lloyd, "Let's face it, rental cars are cool to drive. After all, they don't belong to us, so we feel a little more relaxed about destroying its four, rock-hard economy tires." Check. "I mean, they aren't usually particularly nice cars." Hold the phone...
Usually when filming a car, I attached a GoPro to the rear bumper in order to capture some pure, unfiltered exhaust sound. Usually I end up with the kind of noises that give James May (and all the rest of us, for that matter) a certain fizzing sensation, down there. The '13 2.0T was, well; very different.
Two German, one Japanese. One V8, one V10, and one burbling boxer four. Two 4wd, one RWD. All with four doors.
I spent a little over one week with an Audi A4 2.0T from SilverCar. I'm usually wary of companies that employ flippant mottos like "Rentals that don't suck," but in this case, it quite perfectly captures the ethos.
looks like the future
It was forking amazing. Idyllwild Mountain may be the most satisfyingly extensive portion of twisty road I've ever encountered. There wasn't even traffic.
And I'm really digging my '13 Audi A4 from Silver Car thus far. Only 2900 miles on it, great low end torque, nicely weighted steering; I cannot wait to snake through some canyons.
It's all carbon fiber. All of it. :0
I had the opportunity to drive an 04 RS6 yesterday. It's a heavy thing, tipping the scales at roughly 4,100 lbs, but let me tell you, it MOVES! I just sent this vid to the owner and he replied with, "Too quiet...that's it, this is motivation to upgrade the exhaust." You have my blessing sir.
One of our members brought this insane V10 Lambo/Audi rocket sled by earlier today. It has a Meisterschaft Stainless exhaust. Listen to it.
